The mission of Hudec Culrural Foundation - the successor of the Hudec Heritage Project - which was established by László Ede Hugyecz‘s relatives in Hungary, is to research and categorize the archival documents related the famous architect. These documents came to light in 2007. L.E. Hudec, as he was later known, was a Hungarian born architect who became famous between 1920 and 1937 when he played an outstanding role in designing Shanghai’s modern urban architecture.

The professional public already knows part of this material, although this new material greatly adds to this knowledge base. The Foundation's goal is to elaborate the heritage through various media – including a website, a documentary film and a book -- and make it available for further research online as well. Our focus is on publicizing on an international level Hudec’s architectural works, his compelling personal and professional career, and his philosophical and political thoughts.

The archive documents and photos (owned by Hudec’s niece, Dr. Eszter Jánossy) are partly avaialble on this website and it is the basemnet of an online documentary collection. We have been digitizing photos that were made by Hudec depicting Shanghai and his own works, sites in Lugano and America, and photos about his family from the beginning of the 20th century. We have also found approximately 250 letters written by him during the 40 years of his life. Most of them are of historic importance, full of precious information about Hudec’s career, private life, political and philosophical thinking. As part of this project they will be studied and translated to English. Finally, we have also begun to review over 10 hours of 16mm archive film from 1927 to 1940, shot by L.E. Hudec himself, which we hope to add to the website in the near future.
