FINDING HUDEC exhibition opens in the University of Debrecen on the 8th of October, 2019

The Chinese-Hungarian co-production exhibition will be on show from 8 to 22 of October in the building of the University of Debrecen, Faculty of Engineering. The content of the exhibition is made by the students and professors of the ECNU School of Desing and  experts of the Hudec Cultural Foundation. It will present the works of Hudec in our days Shanghai in photos and video interviews and essays plus the life story and cultural background of László Hudec. He arrived in Shanghai in 1918 and became the most employed architect of the city in 5 years, in 16 years he built the first skyscraper of Asia, the Park Hotel. This exhibition tells the story of how much is his architectural heritage is still a dominant part of the city and how strong is his influence on our days Shanghai. The rich family archives in Budapest were the basement and inspiration of the creative works holding a unique value for the Shanghai citizens by documenting the history of Shanghai.

FINDING HUDEC exhibition opens in FUGA, Budapest

 

The FINDING HUDEC - Architectural Heritage in Today's Shanghai titled exhibition will open on 8th of May, 6 pm, in FUGA, Budapest Center of Architecture.

 

Opening remarks by Dániel Kovács, Art Historian 

 

Hudec Heritage: the Shortest Distance from Shanghai to Budapest!  - This concept was the main idea of setting up the FINDING HUDEC exhibition. In Hungary people are more and more interested in the dynamically developing metropolis where Hudec is one of the most celebrated figure of the pre-war period. It is not suprising since 60 of his buildings are still functioning and they have great reputation.   
 

Donation of Hudec object to Shanghai

The Hudec Cultural Foundation has delivered in ceremonial conditions the family donation, a selection of Hudec object, on 25th of march 2019, in the Shanghai History Museum. The 26 original objects, are fine selection from different parts of the world. Several objects are installed as part of the museum’s current exhibition: the Stereoscopic Notes · Urban Landscape—László Hudec and Modern Shanghai.

Thanks to the generous donation of the Hudec family members in Canada (Theo Hudec's family members), USA (Martin Hudec's and Alessa de Wet's family members) and Budapest (Hudec's niece, Dr Eszter Jánossy) the donated objects are going to enrich the collection of the Shanghai History Museum.

Hudec Media Workshop in Shanghai

An international Hudec Media Workshop program will be held in Shanghai on 20-24 of March in cooperation with the School of Design, East China Normal University Shanghai, the Hudec Cultural Foundation and Panasonic. The aim of the program is to make contemporary documentation of several Hudec buildings through the eyes of young designers and bring their fresh impressions to the Budapest public. The workshop results are going to be exhibited in May, in Budapest, in the FUGA gallery, a frequented culture location of Budapest. The program is an initiation of Hudec Cultural Foundation.

L. E. Hudec heritage in the region

Commemorate the Hudec legacy in his born city on the 60th anniversary of his death

The aim of the 1 day program is to introduce the L. E. Hudec related cultural heritage in the region with participation of Slovakian, Hungarian and Chinese experts, local people concerned and invited stakeholders. There will be guided tour to Hudec related places and solemn event of the “MEMORANDOUM for Preserving the Hudec Heritage” document signature. The document is representing an international initiation of collecting and supervising Hudec related researches, developments and establishing a jointly agreed Hudec tradition.
The program is a joint event of the Hudec Memorial Year 2018-2019.

L. E. HUDEC MEMORIAL YEAR

L. E. Hudec Memorial Year, 2018-2019 has been announced by the Human Dignity Council and the Hungarian Association of Architects. The purpose of the memorial year is to introduce to the Hungarian audience the architect of the first skyscraper in Asia, László Hudec and his architectural heritage in Shanghai.

 

László Hudec (1893-1958) is one of the talented Hungarian who survived World War I, whose outstanding architectural work has been discovered by the Hungarians architects and culture experts in the past 10 years and has since become one of the main pillars of Sino-Hungarian relations. 

The city leaders of Shanghai are also proud of their Hudec legacy: 28 of his 60 buildings are protected with Cultural Heritage label, and the number of beatifully renovated Hudec buildings has been increasing in the last years.

The year 2018 is a unique occasion to celebrate the Hudec heritage in China, in Central Europe and in USA. László Hudec was born 125 years ago in Besztercebánya (Banska Bystrica) Slovakia, he arrived to Shanghai 100 years ago and he died 60 years ago in Berkeley, USA. The Hudec Cultural Foundation has several plans to organize events, exhibitions and cooperate in film productions for celebrating and commemorating the Hudec oeuvre, his architectural talent and his exemplary life story of the vicissitudes 20th century.
